The site, founded in April 1997 by William Bastone, Barbara Glauber, and Daniel Green, was acquired by Court TV in December 2000. The Smoking Gun is part of Turner Entertainment Digital Network, which is part of the Turner Sports & Entertainment Digital Network, itself a division of Time Warner, a media conglomerate headquartered above a mall in midtown Manhattan.
The Smoking Gun was originally designed by Glauber and Beverly Joel of Heavy Meta. Technical assistance was provided by Mike Essl, who handled many subsequent design tasks. The site was redesigned in 2010 by Funny Garbage. Our Los Angeles correspondent (emeritus) is Samuel Bretzfield.
