Who said basketball star Chris Webber couldn't top the "phantom time-out" when it came to bonehead plays? Well, the NBA player was charged yesterday (9/9) with lying to a federal grand jury about his involvement with a University of Michigan booster who admits lending Webber and other family members $280,000 before the athlete turned pro in 1993. The below indictment, announced yesterday by Detroit prosecutors, accuses the Sacramento King of making false statements before a grand jury and obstruction of justice. Each count carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a fine of $250,000. (10 pages)
