The Lewiston, Maine police sure are a swell bunch of
guys. If a motorist is cited for parking at an expired
meter, for example, they'll tear the ticket up if the
recipient simply writes a letter of apology (drivers
can take advantage of this waiver only once a year).
As you can see from this sampling of letters sent to
Lewiston cops over the past few months, frugal Yankees
seem to like this policy. Of course, since these
parking tickets only set you back $5, it appears most
motorists can't be bothered with the mea culpa. (7
