Noted vegan Chrissie Hynde's Pretenders are the meatless musicmakers

MAY 29--Which "totally vegetarian band" was the subject of this week's "Friday Photo Fun" contest?

Of the scores of groups tabbed by contest participants, Coldplay, Foo Fighters, Rage Against the Machine, Green Day, Phish, Fall Out Boy, and Good Charlotte were some of the leading vote getters. But the top two picks among the nearly 1000 entries were the groups Rise Against and AFI (likely because a Google search for vegetarian bands prominently turns up their names).

However, as seen below, the group demanding that vegan pate is The Pretenders. Front woman Chrissie Hynde, who has worn PETA's "Tax Meat" t-shirts in concert, opened the vegan restaurant VegiTerranean in Akron, Ohio in 2007.

A handful of contestants correctly identified The Pretenders, and from that group five names will be drawn at random, with the winners getting their pick of a DVD of either "Taken," "Gran Torino," or "He's Just Not That Into You."
