Soccer star David Beckham's name was co-opted by the drug trafficker

JUNE 12--For today's "Friday Photo Fun" contest, entrants had to determine what sports superstar had his name used as an e-mail alias by a narcotics trafficker.

Well, an overwhelming number of the 900+ contestants appear to have been swayed by the criminal's e-mail address (dogstar7788@hotmail.com), and concluded that the athlete was Michael Vick, the canine-killing football star. Other entrants, tricked by the New York City zip code, submitted the names of Gotham stars like Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Darryl Strawberry, Eli Manning, and Patrick Ewing. Other big vote getters included Michael Jordan, Barry Bonds, Kobe Bryant, and Shaquille O'Neal. And one misguided individual even thought the trafficker borrowed Tommy Lasorda's name.

But the athlete in question is actually David Beckham, international soccer star/underwear model.

A handful of contestants correctly identified Posh's husband, and from that group five names will be drawn at random, with the winners each getting their pick of a title on Amazon.com's Top 25 DVDs list.
