The Dog Dialed 911 - A Book of Lists From The Smoking Gun

Dear Gang Land Readers:

To mark the October 9 publication of our new book, The Dog Dialed 911 (Little, Brown), The Smoking Gun has produced the nifty bookmark shown here. We’ve modeled it on “game-worn” baseball cards, collectibles that include fabric swatches from the uniforms of stars like Derek Jeter and Pedro Martinez.

But instead of cutting up an athlete’s threads, we’ve diced a prison uniform actually worn by John Gotti, the late Mafia boss. The hoodlum donned the khaki garments while imprisoned at the federal penitentiary in Marion, Illinois. TSG obtained the uniform (and Gotti’s laundry bag) in July 2002 while reporting a story about a former inmate who worked in the prison laundry and swiped the drab duds after Gotti was transferred from the institution in late-2000.

The Gotti uniform was recently disassembled by seamstresses and then cut into 2000 swatches by the artisans at Dickard Widder Industries, who bound the fabric into the bookmarks (each of which is numbered).

If you’d like a shot at one of the 25 bookmarks we’re raffling off to Gang Land readers, just send a blank e-mail to tsgraffle@yahoo.com by noon on Wednesday, October 18. We’ll then randomly pick the winners from a hat and contact them for mailing instructions. Please, only one entry per e-mail address. Good luck and remember that The Dog Dialed 911 can be yours for a measly $11 at fine online outlets like Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Regards,
Your pals at TSG
