Like Most Of His Players, New Mets Manager Terry Collins Has A Mug Shot

Welcome to New York, Terry Collins.

The New York Mets today are scheduled to announce their hiring of Collins as the team’s new manager. Since Collins, who previously managed the Angels and Astros to mediocre records, is a relative unknown to Gotham fans, here’s a brief biography:

He has a drunk driving arrest (and a mug shot, as seen above).

Collins, 61, was collared for DUI in June 2002 in Augusta, Georgia (cops pulled him over after spotting Collins driving a Kia Optima with a flat tire). After emerging, staggering, from the vehicle, Collins failed a field sobriety test. A subsequent Breathalyzer test confirmed that he was plastered. Collins's blood alcohol content registered .181, more than twice the state's .08 limit, according to a police citation.

Court records show that Collins pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor drunk driving charge. He was fined $590, placed on probation for two years, and ordered to perform 40 hours of community service.
