Investigators today released this mug shot of Jared Lee Loughner, the guman accused of killing six individuals and gravely wounding Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in Saturday’s bloody spree outside a supermarket in Tucson, Arizona.

Loughner, who made an appearance today in U.S. District Court in Phoenix, was photographed Saturday by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, which released the booking image late this afternoon

Loughner, 22, was named Sunday in a five-count federal complaint charging him with killing two federal employees, including federal Judge John Roll, and wounding three others, including Giffords.

According to the article at this link the shaved head photo of Loughner is not his booking photo. It says it was taken by the forensic unit. Why was it released as the official mugshot? Maybe Smokinggun should get and post the real mugshot. blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/valleyfever/2011/01/jared_loughner_eerily_smirks_i.php Another interesting site on the subject can be found by Googling the words "facts matter mugshot". Loughner, the man accused of carrying out the Tucson shooting rampage, can be appearing in court on Jan. 10. Murder and attempted murder will be included in the list of charges he can be indicted on. He has not made any statements since he was taken into custody. He has not cooperated with investigators. He is likely to be getting a huge payday loan to cover his legal team.
That picture should not have been used, the person taking that photo, should have taken another one,... without a smile, and that one given to the public. I think, the authorities did it,.. on purpose, to enrage the public, in publishing that horrible picture...! .
No, this kind of thing is actually very typical, especially when the person being booked in has some type of mental disorder. I've seen a lot of people that were arrested for violent crimes and when they were booked in they had a huge smile on their faces. You can't control this...I really do not think the authorities had "enraging the public" in mind when this picture was made. Besides...why are you trying to blame law enforcement for anything? This nutjob is the one who pulled the trigger :P
No offense, but were you there? These goofballs do this intentionally. He probably smiled for every photo, you can't make him stop. My guess is the plan is to look as "crazy" as possible so no one messes with you in the big house. The 25th Hour touches on that subject, great film. On a different note, it seems this goofball got pulled over by police before heading over to the Safeway that fateful day. The news that is coming out now is that he ran a red light after purchasing "something" from Wal-Mart just hours before. Allegedly he and his dad got into an argument prior to him leaving the house that day. Not that any of this is his fault.
this killer bears an uncanny resemblance to ''Uncle Fester '' on the old addams family tv show....
Uncle Fester (Jackie Coogan) was relatively harmless compared to the cad in the picture. I hope Loughner gets the death penalty for what he did.
Looks like a productive member of society. Also, agree with BeauBock.
I think this guy may be the reincarnation of Gordon Stuart Northcott, the sadistic murderer of young boys from the Wineville Chicken Coop murders. Check out a picture of the insane grinning Northcott and you will get a chill up your spine like I did when I saw the Loughner mugg shot.
Ha ha, a conscious effort to look like either Mickey Knox from Natural Born Killers or Yellow B@stard from Sin City. Personally, shaping your eyebrows to look "evil" is cooler than removing them entirely.
