Judge Rejects Wesley Snipes's Last-Ditch Plea To Postpone Prison Surrender

A federal judge today rejected Wesley Snipes’s “emergency” plea to forestall his prison surrender until after the holidays, noting that the actor has had more than two years to “place his affairs in order” and prepare family members for his incarceration.

In a motion filed Friday in U.S. District Court, Snipes noted that he has “four minor children ranging in age from 4 years old to 9 years old” and that he was scheduled to surrender “in the middle of the holiday season.”

This argument did not sway Judge William Terrell Hodges, who today issued an order denying Snipes’s motion. “The natural and inevitable consequence of any substantial sentence or imprisonment,” Hodges ruled, “is to separate Defendant from his family during holidays and at all other times of significance to a particular family unit—birthdays, weddings, and the like.”

Snipes, 48, is scheduled Thursday to surrender at a Pennsylvania prison to begin serving a three-year sentence for failing to file income tax returns. Snipes is pictured above in a Unites States Marshals Service mug shot.

For all you that question why Snipes didn't just hire a good accountant, you miss the point. Wesley Snipes is so tight he squeaks. It is true most all of the wealthier Hollywood types who preach liberal tax and spend politics also happen to pay little to no taxes themselves. Accountants do all their heavy lifting for them. They set up offshore shell corporation accounts in low to no tax countries that have an exemplary record of hiding assets. Its a long tradition in Hollywood. But Wesley didn't want to pay the upfront to hire such an accountant. What's more is the IRS is likely not going to see much of what he owes for years and years.
Hasn't this Hollywood multimillionare ever heard of a tax accountant. How stupid do you have to be to be that high profile and not file a tax return. For multiple years. I mean he's not slinging coke on a street corner. I wonder if the judge gave him extra time for being a moron?
As usual, there is more to the story. Snipes got involved with Eddie Kahn, who is well known to the Feds. I spent time with Eddie at a Fed camp in 1986, and let me tell you this was not an accountant type of deal. In fact, Eddie is an accountant, past member of Posse Comitatus, and a rabidly committed anti-tax type. Snipes tried to beat the tax man, and that is a bad idea. Hell, he makes millions and didn't want to pay a dime. He's fortunate they didn't push a felony tax beef that would've netted him a 120 month stint, based on the amount of money involved.
Censure him. It seems appropriate to me. Of course he wasn't in "Korea" with good ole Charlie....
Mr Snipes should have gotten a fine and probation. 3 Years is over the top, not like he did an Oj and kidnapped, robed and murdered. goverment imposses taxes at will, like King George and all we can do is Nothing. God Bless America...Signed... A patroitic American
We need new gun laws. Every patriotic American, "real Americans" as Sarah Palin calls them. You know the kind, god fearing heterosexual Republicans, should get their own M-60, 10,000 rounds of ammo, an M203 grenade launcher with 100 grenades and as many claymores as they can carry. Then we'll show these socialists a thing or two...Signed... A real American.
I've already got all of those, but I live in NJ and we are surrounded by the enemy in Newark, Trenton and Camden.
Heres what should have happened Snipes should have run for Senate. Rangled did worse and ge got sensored...whoopi
This buffoon has had two years to have his lawyer plead this down. He must be borderline retarded not to have gotten this fixed a long time ago. Same thing as that stupid has been actress that got caught stealing in Bloomingdales a few years ago. These Hollywood premadonnas are their own worst enemys.
First they came for the Jews and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew. Then they came for the Communists and I did not speak out because I was not a Communist. Then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me.
