Brandy Accused In Wrongful Death Lawsuit

JANUARY 30--The family of the California woman killed last month in a freeway accident triggered by the singer Brandy has filed a $50 million wrongful death lawsuit against the 28-year-old entertainer. California Highway Patrol officials have recommended the filing of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter charges against the R&B singer (full name: Brandy Norwood) in connection with the December 30 crash on the 405 Freeway. According to police, Norwood's 2007 Land Rover was going around 65 mph when the vehicle rear-ended a 2005 Toyota being driven by Awatef Aboudihaj. The impact caused the Toyota to slam into the rear of another vehicle and then careen toward the center divider, where it was struck by 1988 Acura. Aboudihaj, 38, died later that day of injuries sustained during the wreck. In the wrongful death complaint, filed today by Aboudihaj's parents, Aboudihaj Ahmed and Labridi Zohra, in Los Angeles Superior Court, Norwood is charged with reckless driving resulting in the woman's death. In a previous statement, Norwood expressed condolences to Aboudihaj's family and asked the media to 'respect the privacy of everyone involved at this time.' (3 pages)
