Imagine if Tinky Winky was around in the heyday of Senator Joseph McCarthy and J. Edgar Hoover. We think that poor purple bastard would've been burned at the stake for corrupting young American minds. As proof, we present this bizarre 1953 FBI memo in which Hoover memorializes a conversation with McCarthy that focused on whether two government officials were gay (one of the suspects, Charles Bohlen, had recently been appointed U.S. Ambassador to the Soviet Union). Apparently, this was what Hoover and McCarthy--two manly men--liked to discuss during their private chats. (2 pages)
