Official Court Web Site Identifies Kobe Accuser

SEPTEMBER 16--In a colossal online screw-up, the name and address of the alleged victim in the Kobe Bryant rape case was left in a legal document posted this morning on an official web site maintained by Colorado's Office of the State Court Administrator, The Smoking Gun has learned. The woman's name and Eagle, Colorado address are included in an exhibit attached to a motion filed by the Vail Police Department seeking to quash a defense subpoena. The document went online at 10:25 AM (est) and it was not until court officials were contacted at 11:55 by TSG that they became aware that they had identified the 19-year-old woman. At 12:03, the document was removed from the court page that lists every record filed in People v. Bryant. At 1:00, the document was restored to the court's web site, this time in a heavily redacted form. A clerk in the Eagle County Courthouse who would only identify herself as "Stephanie" told TSG that workers there are responsible for redacting the alleged victim's name from filings before scanning and e-mailing the documents to the Denver headquarters of the Colorado Court Administrator. Below you'll find a copy of the court exhibit posted this morning--we've fogged out the three places where the woman's name and address appeared. (3 pages)
