TSA Exposure Suit

JANUARY 13--The woman who sued the Transportation Security Administration after her breasts were exposed during a frisking at a Texas airport will receive a “nominal” payment from the government as part of a legal settlement, The Smoking Gun has learned.

The settlement was disclosed in documents filed last week in U.S. District Court in Amarillo, where Lynsie Murley last year filed a lawsuit accusing the TSA of negligence and intentional infliction of emotional distress in connection with the May 2008 incident at the Corpus Christi airport.

Murley’s lawyer, Jerry McLaughlin, declined to disclose the exact amount of money that his client is receiving, but termed the payout a “nominal settlement.” Asked if the amount hit six figures, McLaughlin laughed loudly and said the negotiated payment was “way less than that. It wasn’t a whole lot of money.” Murley, he said, “was never interested in the money,” and would not have filed a lawsuit if TSA officials had simply sent her a letter of apology.

Murley is pictured above in a photo from her Facebook page.

The 24-year-old Murley alleged that after being “singled out for extended search procedures,” a TSA agent frisked her and “pulled Plaintiff’s blouse completely down, exposing Plaintiff’s breasts to everyone in the area.” Her complaint noted that, “as would be expected,” Murley was “extremely embarrassed and humiliated.”

Murley charged that TSA employees “joked and laughed about the incident for an extended period of time.” After leaving the security line to be “consoled by an acquaintance who had brought her to the airport,” Murley returned to the line, where a male TSA worker said that he had wished he was there when she first passed through. The employee, Murley recalled, added that “he would just have to watch the video.”

The court settlement was reached shortly after government lawyers deposed Murley. The agreement, McLaughlin said, “got her some justice.” (5 pages)

The videos would clearly show any improper or perverted behavior by the federal employees. If any is proven then they should be immediatedly fired and labeled as a predator.
I can't imagine why the world hates America so.
I also had a bad experience being searched at the Corpus Christi, TX airport several years ago. I reported it to TSA by giving them scanned copies of my boarding pass showing the date, airline, flight number, etc. What was their response to my claim? They said they had no record of who was working at that gate, on that day, at that time, as well as having no record of who was on that particular flight! TSA employees are a joke! I had on fitted clothes while they let people of mideastern descent with baggy clothes walk right through. Their response was they were not allowed to "profile." The government should focus on not giving pilots licenses to terrorists as they did in Florida prior to 9/11. They should also not let people on the "do not fly list" on the airplane, as they did around Christmas a year ago. Instead, they choose to spend billions on security and humiliate innocent citizens.
Why do all you people constantly make it a party issue. What's happening is the TSAs ran by a bunch of wannabe cops and highschool grads who wanted to have an easy job. These people are the people fit to enforce national security at our transportation hubs? Regardless of how ridiculous security measures have become, forcing Americans to give up freedom for a "sense" of security, they should not be enforced by a bunch of *** people who are incapable of acting as authority figures.Never trust a democrat? Fark that never trust bipartisan rule.
TSA needs to back off and Congress is the body that can make them do it. Those who value our constitutional rights to travel and to be free from unreasonable searches may want to call their Congresswoman or Congressman and ask them to pass legislation to restrict TSA abuses. For two hundred years Americans have sacrificed and died to protect our freedom. It shouldn't be too much to ask for people to make a few phone calls. If we can't take a stand somewhere the Federal Government will take away more and more of our freedom. Please let our elected representatives know where you stand.
TSA paid a nominal fine?...no ...you the TAX payer paid a fine for the TSAs stupidity.
Amen to that - as usual!!! She should have had one of those small voice recorders in her pocket - like they use in business meetings - looks like we may all have to carry them around in the future for situations like this!!!
Ladies, give these TSA goons a hard pointed crack in the face with the back of your swinging elbow the next time one of these low class thugs sexually assault you. No jury would convict you for defending yourself against sexual assault by TSA.
You may not get convicted, but you would get arrested. You'd miss your flight & you might even be placed on the do not fly list.
This poor woman! How would any of us feel if something embrassing like this happened to us? We need to focus more on personal responsibility!
Maybe Michelle Obama or Big SIS (UGG) should have their breast exposed in an airport. What would Barry Obama do if Michelle’s breasts where exposed bay a TSA agent in an airport or those of his daughters? As with any husband and father if it where my wife or daughter there would have hell to pay. This would be in the courts for as long as I would see fit with no mercy. No one has this right for this behavior and the government is crapping on our liberties ENOUGH PERIOD!
WTF are you talking about? You make no sense whatsoever. So convenient to place blame on whatever politician you don't like I guess.
Why are you ragging on Mrs. Obama? The problem with TSA is the lack of training. Misogynistic pigs should be weeded out of the hiring pool. These incidents are happening to attractive passengers.
I don't want to see Napolitano or the 'Black Womans' jugs!!! It's bad enough looking at her "Lobster Tail"....Thank you very much!!
Our government sets procedures like what the TSA people do at airports, to make the American people live in a constant state of fear. This is bullshiat.
actually dont explain...petes just an idiot
I love how every time there is a lawsuit, the person filing always says, "I didn't even want the money, all I wanted was an apology." And it is always said after the ruling is in favor of them.
Ok, so the TSA had to pay a nominal amount for the poor behavior of some of its employees at the Corpus Christi airport. Now, tell me what was done to punish these fools hired by the TSA. All the experiences I have had with them have not left me with a positive feeling about how safe they are keeping us but rather how much they are contributing to the negatives of traveling by air. Mostly a bunch of low-level meatheads given a badge. Typical government agency.
I actually liked this article and agreed she should have been paid something...if they would just have apologized immediately and rectified the situation first and foremost than I wouldn't think she was owed any monetary compensation, but since they proceeded to belittle her and make jokes about her they should have to pay...not the taxpayers. I think she should have sued the individuals but she probably thought she could get more money and make a bigger statement by suing TSA which means we all pay.
The TSA agents who made fun of the woman should be fired for sexual harrassment
You're right about the fact that taxpayers should not have to pay any settlement. But justice cannot be dependent upon apologies. It is up to the injured party to decide if an apology alone is satisfactory. No one else has any right to make that decision. If that were so, think of the pandora's box that would be opened with folk using that clause, 'but I apologized' as concrete evidence and therefore claim to acquittals.
Obviously this female is just another wenny liberal tying up the court system, and her attorney is just another opportunist ambulence chaser. Suing the TSA will just end-up costing all of us more money to fly. She has free choice, if she doesn't want her breast exposed, she hire her own private jet. And she can't afford one that is just too bad. Let her get a better paying job. Too bad she never heard of personal responsibility. You choose to travel with the masses, expect to pay the price.
Maybe she should try wearing a "BRA" as well!!
You're a moron!!
Why aren’t private planes also under TSA? Are you telling me that John Travolta’s Jets can’t do the same damage as was done on 911? What a private business jet can’t cause a massive like terrorist act? Get real the whole TSA thing is a scam as it has not saved us from anything. Israel has the real deal and it works. Have individual security profiles completed and upgraded every thirty-six months and fly as we once use to.
Pete, Pete, Pete. It's obvious you didn't read the article but maybe gave it a quick glance. Firstly, she said she only expected an apology from the TSA and she never got one so she took it to the next level. She wasn't looking for monetary compensation. Secondly, she was not exposed by the new high resolution scanners. This happened in 2008 before the controversial groping pat downs. The agent actually pulled this young woman's blouse down, exposing her tits in a populated area for all to see. Perhaps you can imagine your own daughter or wife in this young woman's position or maybe yourself, with the agent pulling down your drawers to expose your small "head". Thirdly, you don't know she is "another wenny liberal..." and she may indeed be a conservative but that is completely irrelevant to the story. Fourthly, she is not personally responsible for the actions of the agent or the jokes made by other agents who added "humiliation" to embarrassment. Next, since the article didn't say what she does for a living and how much she earns, and that that information is completely irrelevant to the story, you wouldn't know she needs a better paying job. Do yourself a favor and read it again and this time pay attention. Post responsibly or continue to show the audience you're stupid.

awwwwww come on Pete!!! If you think anyone deserves to be humiliated and embarrassed like this young lady was, you have a problem! TSA employees are a big joke!! I've been subjected to the same treatment, at this same airport. I am a female and the TSA agent was also female. I haven't been felt off like that except by my doctor or boyfriend. LOL. Go back and read my previous comment I posted of TSA's response when I complained. It's time for the citizens to stand up and complain!
Obviously some people don't detect sarcasm even when it's beating them over the head
Street hires without training. And they have a contract. This is a mess just waiting to explode.
The Democrats just put a bill in congress so that they themselves will not have to do this - but everyone else still has to.
TSA is wrong and they're not keeping us any safer by violating our rights. There are a couple problems here though. First of all the TSA has no money, only taxpayer money. We the taxpayers are paying for the TSA to defend itself in court and we the taxpayers are paying out any settlements reached.
"First of all the TSA has no money, only taxpayer money." Of course you mean money borrowed from China that taxpayers will have to pay back some day. I agree with you: we need a law that takes the damages awards out of the errant federal employee's salary and pension. That will teach them some respect.
I have been through the airport there in Corpus Christi. I was traveling under orders, and in uniform...These people working there are total idiots. It was the single worst airport experience I ever had.
I wonder how the press might respond if the TSA Agent in question was Clarence Thomas?
Wasn't this a form of rape?
This is a CIVIL settlement. The case can still go to the appropriate district attorney for filing as a criminal case. Depends on what the DA considers to be a crime. So, this is not necessarily "over" for the TSA goons.
This was not a "TSA" worker he was a "TNA" (Tits N Azz) worker.
This is an atrocity, they should be in prison. Our country is permitting those in positions put in place to protect it's citizens, to abuse their power and allow them to abuse those they are supposed to be helping.
While I agree with you that this is an atrocity I don't believe jail would be appropriate. We have enough criminals filling up our prisons and enough tax payer dollars. I think they should have either been fired, fined and/or given several 100 hours of community service picking up trash on the side of the highway or maybe working for habitat for humanity and maybe they would learn some maturity. I hope something was done to them besides a slap on the wrist though.
At every job I've had, you would have been fired for even joking about such an event, and jailed if you were the one pulling down the shirt. Why are these criminals still on the job and not in jail ?
You are exactly right. There is no other job where you can even get away with joking about something like this.
Strip club owner? Strip club patron?
