Microsoft boss Bill Gates's main foundation donated nearly $19 million during the fiscal year ending March 31, 1998 (the multibillionaire also has a second charity that donates money to public libraries). During that period, the William H. Gates Foundation earned $137 million on the sale of some of its Microsoft stock and paid Gates's father $40,000 for part-time work as a foundation manager.
