Scary book author Stephen King is no horror when it comes to charitable donations. The foundation run by King and his wife donated more than $4.3 million in 1997, most of which went to groups located in Maine, the couple's home state (the Bangor Public Library got $1.2 million and $1 million went to the University of Maine).
