Four-time presidential candidate and U.S. Communist Party boss Gus Hall did time in the Leavenworth, Kansas penitentiary in the early-1950s (when he was photographed by Bureau of Prisons officials). Hall's crime was to 'Conspire and Teach Overthrow of the U.S. Government by Force or Violence.'
