This fall, Ted Kaczynski's second tract, a 384-page work entitled
"Truth Versus Lies," will be released by Context Books, a small New
York City publishing house. According to the Unabomber's editor, Crazy
Teddy's new manifesto "deftly treads the line between eloquent memoir
and uncompromising defense."
But for those of you unwilling to part with $25.99 for further insights
from a serial killer, The Smoking Gun offers this interactive quiz,
developed from documents contained in Kaczynski's federal court file in
Sacramento, California. Last year, during a court-ordered competency
review, Kaczynski was subjected to a battery of psychological tests,
including the venerable Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory
(MMPI). The 567-question true-or-false test has been used for years to
assess everyone from job applicants to criminal defendants.
Included in the Kaczynski court file, The Smoking Gun recently
discovered, are the Unabomber's answers to the MMPI. And they are as
revealing--and creepy--as anything that has been written about (or by)
the former Montana hermit. The Smoking Gun has incorporated 40 of these
questions and answers into our Unabomber quiz.
The set-up is simple: after answering all the questions, your grade
will be computed on the basis of how many of your answers matched
Kaczynski's answers. This, of course, is highly unscientific, so don't
have yourself or a loved one committed if you ace the exam. And feel
free to keep taking the test--this ain't the SATs.
