Bob Hope's $50 Million Bequest

NATTY: Bankrupt Mike Tyson's hefty clothing tab

OCTOBER 2--Bob Hope, who was notorious for pinching pennies, set aside a whopping $50 million for the establishment of a museum, according to his will. While Hope did not specify the museum's subject matter, his longtime publicist, Ward Grant, told TSG that the institution could be devoted to comedy, broadcasting, or the comedian himself. Hope, who died in July at age 100, left most of his property to wife Dolores, according to the 1995 will and a 1997 codicil. Other distributees are detailed in the couple's living trust, which is referenced in the will, but is not a public document. Hope's will, filed in late August in Los Angeles Superior Court, was only released from the court's "safekeeping" vault after TSG appealed to an administrative judge. (13 pages)
