AUGUST 21--An Iowa man was charged today with making a threatening telephone call to the woman Kobe Bryant has been charged with sexually assaulting. According to the below federal indictment, John William Roche, 22, placed a call on July 27 that included a death threat "directed at a witness" in the Bryant case. Roche's threat was left on an answering machine in the 19-year-old woman's home in Eagle County, Colorado, according to investigators. If convicted, Roche faces a maximum of five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. The threatening call came days after the victim's name, address, and home number began circulating widely on the Internet. (3 pages)
