Gary Condit's Wife Sues National Enquirer

This is the federal libel action filed today (2/21)against the National Enquirer by the wife of Gary Condit, the embattled California congressman. Carolyn Condit charges that the supermarket tabloid fabricated a story claiming that she had engaged in a heated telephone call with Chandra Levy prior to the intern's April 2001 disappearance. The lawsuit charges that the Enquirer account "supports the false insinuation that Mrs. Condit physically 'attacked' and 'confronted' Miss Levy and/or physically had something to do with her disappearance." Carolyn Condit is seeking $10 million in damages. (14 pages)
