Howard Stern: Hero To The Homeless?

Even a casual listener to the Howard Stern Show is probably familiar with a feature dubbed "The Homeless Game." The contest is simple: Stern and his cohorts bet on whether an addled street denizen knows the answer to simple questions like whose face is on the five dollar bill.Rarely is Stern as giddy as he is when betting with his sidekicks on the outcome of these curbside IQ tests. So it might come as a surprise that, while using street people as comedic foils, Stern and his wife Alison are directors of a not-for-profit group formed to donate money for "the prevention of hunger, homelessness and domestic violence," according to these New York incorporation papers. Though organized in April 1997, the H & A Stern Family Foundation's philanthropic history is unknown since the group has not filed financial disclosure reports with either the Internal Revenue Service or the New York State Attorney General. But we're sure Howard works real hard combatting the urban ills festering 54 stories below his ritzy Manhattan condominium. (5 pages)
