Malcolm's Purloined Diary Now Safe

Seven months ago, TSG broke the story that the diary Malcolm X was carrying the day he was assassinated had been stolen from a Manhattan courthouse and was about to be illegally auctioned. Our report forced the Butterfield & Butterfield auction house to remove the blood-stained diary from sale and helped convince the Manhattan District Attorney's office to investigate.

Yesterday, the District Attorney's office announced the arrest of Doug Henderson on charges that he stole the diary in 1991. The Smoking Gun always gets its man. (3 pages)
