Subway Caper Goes Off The Rails

DECEMBER 15--Meet Ashley Nicole Fouty. The 20-year-old Subway employee yesterday called cops to report an armed robbery of the Nitro, West Virginia sandwich shop where she worked. Fouty told police that a hulking black man wearing a hooded sweatshirt ordered her to give him all the money from the store's cash register and safe. And, she said, he held a knife to her throat and cut her under the chin. But as Fouty was questioned, inconsistencies emerged in her story, leading skeptical officers to ask for consent to search her car. Fouty agreed and--voila!--cops discovered $1130.64 and a cache of Subway coupons in the auto's trunk. They also recovered a knife and a store surveillance video from Fouty's ride. She copped to staging the robbery and cutting herself, harebrained behavior that led to her arrest on charges of grand larceny and making a false police report, according to the below Magistrate Court criminal complaint.
