More Filth In Your Food

TSG recently reported on the allowable levels of "filth" in grain products like rice, wheat, and rye. Now here's the sickening skinny on some items you'll find at the corner store. While the Food and Drug Administration notes that "it is economically impractical to grow, harvest, or process raw products that are totally free of non-hazardous, naturally occurring, unavoidable defects," try telling that to the guy who discovers "Mammalian excreta" or "rodentfilth" in his chow. Here are some excerpts from the FDA's "Food Defect Action Levels" guide, one of Uncle Sam's more repulsive publications (note that 100 grams is about 3.5 ounces).
