The musician (real name: Jason Bradley DeFord) has an extensive criminal history, with his first arrest coming when he was 14. DeFord has been convicted of narcotics, robbery, and burglary charges and spent years in the custody of the Tennessee Department of Corrections. In April 2025, the state’s Board of Parole recommended a pardon for the performer, whose 2023 record debut generated four Grammy nominations and several country music awards.
