Child Porn Suspect Cites Jared Fogle
Cops: Man claims interest was spurred by bust
APRIL 27--An Arizona man arrested yesterday on child porn charges told police that he first became interested in illicit images of children following the arrest of Jared Fogle, the disgraced former Subway spokesman.
Marc Rico Miller, who lives at a nudist colony 35 miles north of Phoenix, was charged yesterday with 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. According to investigators, Miller, 43, was “responsible for downloading, possessing, and sharing” hundreds of illegal photos via a peer-to-peer network.
Seen at right, Miller is being held in the Maricopa County jail on the felony raps.
Detectives yesterday executed a search warrant at the New River home Miller shares with his wife. The residence is on a lot at Shangrila Ranch, which bills itself as “Arizona’s premier clothing optional resort.”
When confronted by detectives, Miller reportedly confessed to downloading child pornography and “claimed that he became interested after seeing Jared, the spokesperson from Subway, get arrested,” cops noted.
Miller, investigators reported, said that he decided to “research” child pornography himself. However, he “could not stop” and “admitted to masturbating while viewing the images and videos of children involved in sex acts.” Detectives noted that, “At this time there are no known personal hands on child offenses” committed by Miller.
According to his Facebook page, Miller is an Army veteran who works at Grand Canyon University, a private Christian school in Phoenix. His Facebook likes include a Who’s Who of Fox News figures and Republican officials, the Shangrila Ranch, and Maricopa County Sheriff Joseph Arpaio (whose investigators busted Miller).
Fogle, 38, pleaded guilty to paying minors for sex and knowingly receiving illicit photos and videos of children. The former Subway pitchman was sentenced in November to nearly 16 years in federal custody, a term that has gotten off to a rocky start. (1 page)
