Mr. Veiny

FEBRUARY 1--Believing that he was communicating with a young girl, a University of Iowa administrator allegedly sought to entice the minor into a sexual relationship, sent her dozens of obscene images and videos, and even forwarded a photo of his penis, noting that “His name is Veiny.”

Mark Sevcik, 66, has been charged with multiple criminal counts related to contacts via several social media platforms with “a person he believed to be a female under the age of 16,” according to court complaints.

Court filings do not indicate whether Sevcik was communicating with an actual child or was snared in an undercover operation.

Seen in the above mugshot, Sevcik is employed by the University of Iowa’s athletic department, where he is an assistant director and IT department supervisor.

During a four-month period ending last month, Sevcik “sent dozens of pornographic images and videos” and “told the other person that he wanted to perform sex acts” with her, one complaint alleges. At one point, he forwarded a photo of a penis, “telling the female it was his penis and ‘his name is veiny.’”

Sevcik, Iowa City Police Department cops say, encouraged deletion of “all communication and bought female underwear for the other person.” During the recent execution of a search warrant, investigators “recovered the underwear in a vehicle belonging to Sevcik along with condoms and personal lubricant.”

Sevcik, who lives with his wife in Cedar Rapids, was booked into jail this morning for enticing a minor, a felony, and three misdemeanor counts of disseminating obscene material to a minor. If convicted of the charges, Sevcik could face more that 10 years in prison. (2 pages)
