Birthday Murder

SEPTEMBER 5--Ashley Spencer this month wanted to celebrate her 34th birthday with a bang, cops allege.

Specifically, the Florida Woman is accused of soliciting an accomplice to help kill her husband’s lover, a murder that Spencer wanted accomplished by her September 26 birthday, which “could be her birthday gift” to herself, according to an arrest affidavit.

Police began investigating Spencer in late-August after a friend reported that she was making threats against the woman, a corrections deputy with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office. In an August 29 Snapchat message, Spencer asked the source, “You know of any felons that don’t give a damn about life and willing to do a job?”

In a subsequent phone call, the source told cops, Spencer spoke of buying a gun and wanting to “do harm to the baby” fathered by her husband with the female target.

During recorded phone calls with Spencer, the source claimed to have found someone who would assist in the murder plot for $1000. “Ashley stated that she could come up with the money and would like to talk to the male in person,” an investigator reported.

In a September 2 meeting with the purported felon--who was actually an undercover federal agent--Spencer agreed to pay $2000 for the man’s assistance in the murder. While Spencer said she planned to shoot the victim while the woman slept in her home, she told the undercover that he would help her break into the residence and then dispose of her firearm after the killing.

Spencer, cops allege, detailed some of her pre-hit planning, which included leaving her car and phone at a relative’s home two hours away. She planned to “borrow someone’s car to commit the crime” and “has gloves to wear to protect her hands from gun powder.”

Seen above, Spender also told the undercover agent of her timeframe for the murder: “Ashley advised that she wanted to get it done by her birthday, September 26th, and that it could be her birthday gift.” Spencer also was blunt about her alleged motive, saying that she and her husband “have been trying to conceive a child, specifically a boy, and Ashley found out that the victim was able to provide her husband with a baby boy.”

Charged with solicitation to commit murder and solicitation to commit burglary, both felonies, Spencer is being held in the Brevard County jail in lieu of $350,000 bond. She is scheduled for arraignment on October 1. (4 pages)
