Federal prosecutors today (4/9) charged four associates of Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman with helping the Islamic militant to continue to direct terrorist activities from his U.S. prison cell (the blind Muslim cleric was convicted in 1995 of conspiracy in the plot to bomb several New York City landmarks). Abdel-Rahman's lawyer Lynne Stewart, an Arabic translator, and two others were charged with providing "material support of a terrorism organization" by helping Abdel-Rahman pass and receive messages while incarcerated in a federal jail cell (the messages were allegedly being swapped with Abdel-Rahman's cohorts in the Islamic Group).
