It probably was the surname that tipped crackerjack FBI agents to the possibility that Groucho Marx was a Communist sympathizer. With the Red Menace threatening Hollywood, the bureau produced this 1953 summary memo on the comedian (an excerpt follows). Groucho's FBI file was recently unearthed by Jon Wiener, a California history professor and Freedom of Information Act impresario. (10 pages)
